If you have a sedan you can leave the seat belt attached to the seat. Lift the seat up and rotate it around and sneak it out the door. You can see the lock is moved over a finger width in the first picture. You can pop the connector open by using a screwdriver to move the slider/lock over towards the centerline of the car.

The only reason I could maybe see them wanting to include a new foam pad would be maybe it has more/different notches in the foam to run the wires through, or something like that. The part arrives, and it is almost exactly the same size/shape as the old sensor. So then, in order to send the correct part for my car, they said we had to buy a new 'updated' foam seat pad along w/ the sensor, which was an extra $140!! I said 'No, I'll find my own sensor', knowing that Pelican Parts had them for a few bucks less than the dealer anyways ($115 vs. Hellooooo, read much? It was not even close to the right size/shape of the sensor I needed. My shop ordered the sensor from a dealer, and the dealer sent my shop the complete wrong part! Even though my shop gave them my car's VIN, they sent back a non-sport pre 9/97 build sensor, whereas my car has sport seats and a build date of 9/97. To anyone else that needs to do this, beware if you or your shop buys parts from the dealer. It has been replaced with a new OEM sensor which I bought from Pelican Parts, and the airbag light is now off.

It appears the occupancy sensor was the culprit, as expected. The problem appears to finally be fixed, after delays for wrong parts and whatnot.
